Safeguarding visitors is one of our core values. We adhere to three key rules when working with visitor data:

Our website does not use Google Analytics, advert networks, advanced tracking or social media APIs.

What information we collect

Website visitors

We store traditional web server logs for a period of 3 months. This is necessary to maintain a stable service and protect against malicious users or bots. A typical log line will look like this:

xx.xx.xx.xx - [03/Nov/2016:08:52:46 +0000] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 9133 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0" 0.159

This contains an IP address, our server domain, the date and time of the visit, the web page URL requested, the HTTP status code of the response, the size of the response, a referrer URL, the user agent, and time taken to generate the page.

We do not use Javascript tracking or attempt to detect clients or capabilities.

Presently we do not use cookies to track users.

Website tools

Sometimes we use third-party APIs for the tools available on our site, for example 'What is my ISP'. Only your IP address and our API token are sent to the third party, and we check each API provider's privacy policy before signing up to their service.

We do not log API requests. Our API provider may log requests. Queries and responses are delivered over encrypted HTTPS where possible, although none of it is considered sensitive data.

Additionally a static OpenStreetMap will be displayed as part of the results. Map coordinates reflect your city or country only, and do not represent your precise physical location.

Phone calls

When you call us we will keep basic logs for a period of 12 months. This contains the caller's number, the number dialled to reach us, the date and time of the call and the duration of the call.

When you sign up to our newsletter we securely store your email address and IP address (to prevent abuse) for internal use only, until you unsubscribe. Sometimes we boast about how many subscribers we have but never who they are. Except Tom from Wisconsin, hey Tom*.

Personal emails

Our staff keep emails for a period of 12 months and contact information for 12 months after last contact.

When you sign up to a service through us they will use cookies during the shopping cart process. This is not personally identifiable and is used only in the course of normal business. Only the service provider has access to that cookie.

How we use this information

We use anonymized web visitor logs to generate aggregate statistics. This tell us which pages are popular and how new visitors discover us. This information is never linked to you as a person or shared with strangers. Sometimes we aggregate this data and share it with business partners to prove how amazing we are. We do not use Google Analytics.

We use your email address to send a newsletter (only if you want it!) on an infrequent basis. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of the email. We use a reputable email delivery company to send newsletters and keep your address private.

Aggregate website visitor statistics are sometimes shared with business partners. It never contains personal information, IP addresses, unique identifiers or similar.

This privacy policy may change from time-to-time. It will be updated here. Last updated 4 November 2016.
